A typical wonderful surrealist picture by the popular artist George Spiro. Signed both front and back with a dedication as a gift to a friend.
History.
George was born in Poland in 1909 and moved to France in 1942. By the end of WWII he signed up with the French army and later became a citizen of France. In 1946, after his wife dies in a concentration camp, Spiro exhibits a dozen of his works in London. The success of the shows prompted Spiro to devote his life to art. In 1948, he exhibited in France for the first time where he received the ‘Young Artist Award’. He later showed in Bern, Germany and Cannes, France before travelling to the United States to exhibit art in 1950. Spiro died 1994.
